The Canarian Museum

With Canarian Museum Gran Canary owns one of the most spectacular historical expositions of the Canarian native inhabitants and about the genesis of the Canarian archipelago. The museum was founded during the second half of the 19th century in the “Casa Constitucional”, the former town hall in front of the Santa Ana church in Las Palmas, the capital of the island. The museums concept stayed extensively unchanged since the building of the house.

Therefore, religious and social traditions of the prehispanic population, their settlement-history, way of life and trading activities are shown. Also topics like mummifying the dead, creating ceramics or agricultural economy belong to that. As a result, every visitor of the Canarian Museum will find a lot of valuable information. Some exhibits are even surprising, such as the one proving that the native inhabitants already were able to do brain operations.
