El Risco on Gran Canary Canary Islands
Characteristics of El Risco:
Chosing El Risco as holiday destination garantees individual experiences of breath-taking panoramic view points over the Atlantic Ocean. After all, El Risco is located 150 m above the Ocean. The see faces the impressive massif Tirma, Tamadaba and Faneque. Beyond that, El Risco picks up points with its beautiful fresh water lagoon (artificial lake) and nature bathing bay, which was shaped through wind, water and igneous energy. The bay is embedded in a massif and is considered to be a touristical inside tip.
Location:
El Risco is located in the northern region of Gran Canary. This is where the climatic influence of the Atlantic Ocean can be felt stronger than in the south of the island. Therefore the landscape is greener and is used agriculturally. Nevertheless, due to its geographical conditions the municipality Telde isn´t immediately exposed to the north-east-trade-wind. What makes the temperature pleasantly warm all year through.
About 300 people are living in El Risco at the moment. The place was integrated into the municipality area of Agaete, where aprroximately 5,000 people live.
The fishing and ferry harbour Puerto de las Nieves is near El Risco. Several sandy and gravel beaches as well as nature pools and a sea promenade with restaurants can be found there. From the fishing village of Puerto de las Nieves you can go to the neighboring island Tenerife by ferry.
Destinations:
The varied landscape near El Risco is perfect for hiking in the close-by mountains, for visiting the cliff-lined nature bathing bay, for exploring the region around Agaete as well as for boat trips. On an excursion into the valley of Agaete you will discover a lovely fresh water lagoon as well as a tropical world of exotic plants, e.g. coffee, bananas and mango. The close-by harbour of the fishing village Puerto de las Nieves allows you a comfortable ferry-trip to the neighboring island Tenerife.
Agaete:
The small town Agaete is about 15 km away. It mirrors the traditional, building structure on the archipelagos. Narrow alleys with small, neat houses are typical for this picturesque little town. This is where you can see carved details on balconies and doors. In small, rich-in-tradition-shops you can buy beautiful handmade products and try real canaric specialties. This place is the starting point for interesting excursions into the fascinating landscape.
