Pico de las Nieves - volcano of Gran Canary
With its about 2.000 metres the Pico de las Nieves, the snow top, is the highest mountain of the island Gran Canary.
The Pico de las Nieves is the highest point of an extincted volcano. It towers above the Cumbres, the mountainious area of the Spanish island Gran Canary and is the ultimate hint for hikers and climbers.
This is where you can experience pure nature because the area of the Massif Central on Gran Canary is sparsely populated. Mountain villages like La Solana or El Chorillo are close-by, yet remoted.
You shouldn´t relinquish an impressive trip to Pico de las Nieves when visiting Gran Canary. This place is an imposing contrast to sun, beach and sea. It captures the beautiful panorama of the mountains in the centre and is a charming tourist attraction.
Your view opens widely towards the rocks Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga, above woods full of rare trees, the canyons called barranacos as well as the gigantic volcano crater in the heart of Gran Canary.
Behind the Barranco of Fataga you can spot tourist places like Playa del Ingles, Maspalomas and sometimes the dunes of the most southern edge of Gran Canary.
Once the sky is clear you will enjoy a view towards the huge volcano Teide of the neighboring island Tenerife. A sleeper is a visit of the Pico de las Nieves to marvel at sunrises and sunsets.
The Pico de las Nieves can´t only be reached by foot. A comfortable car ride along the street up to the viewpoints of the mountain massif, that is crowned with a TV antenna, is also possible. Don´t leave your warm clothes at home on this trip. Summerly 25°C in the valley below correspond to 10°C, up to 15°C, on the mountain top.
